Blood Brothers - Friends for Life
62Before Blood Transfusion
In February of 2001, I was hit by a car.
My mom didn’t notice I was in trouble because there was no blood anywhere. When she realized I was seriously ill she took me to the pet hospital in downtown Vancouver. The people at the hospital were fabulous. They thought I was very special and took wonderful care of me.
The doctors rushed me into their emergency room and put me on oxygen right away. When they checked me over and diagnosed my condition they found that my internal organs had been pushed up through my diaphragm. I was fighting for my life. That was why I was having so much difficulty breathing. They told my mom that, to save me, they would have to operate. The probability of my coming out of surgery alive was 50/50. But, if I survived the operation, I had an excellent chance to live a long and healthy life. Naturally, she couldn’t live without me, so she agreed to the operation.
They operated on me the next day and it was successful. But I needed a blood transfusion. My mom wasn’t the right blood type although she did offer. Sarah, who managed the pet hospital has a very cool cat who was similar to me. His name is Eliot and he had given blood before. So Sarah brought him in to meet me and he gave me some of his blood. Wow!! What a brave thing to do. That’s his picture after the transfusion. He’s dozy, but just fine.
Eliot and I are now blood brothers for life!
I'll never forget Eliot. Thanks to him I am now in tip-top condition.
At the top of the Hub is a picture of me before my accident. This is my favorite chair that I share with Hollister, the bear. When I returned from the hospital it took 6 months for the fur on my belly to grow back, so I finally let mom take a picture of me again. She caught me snoozing with Hollister again and snapped my picture when I woke up and stretched.
What a handsome lad! I do believe I am better looking than before.
Blessings, KC
PS: Next Hub I'll show you my mousing, birding and fishing skills and how I help weed and plant things in the garden..
